The Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of Jackson State University National Alumni Association, Inc. (JSUNAA) will be hosting its annual scholarship fundraiser, “The Black Winemakers’ Dinner” on July 14, 2019. Jackson State University (JSU) has a distinguished history, rich in the tradition of educating young men and women for leadership located in Jackson, Mississippi. JSUNAA has six regions of the United States and consists of thirty-nine chapters. Currently, the Chapter represents an alumni base of approximately 1,500 in the DFW area. This event was started in 2013 as a way raise funds for our students from the DFW area that currently attend JSU. This is an example of one of the many benevolent acts that helps us embrace our motto, “Leading the Charge, Continuing Thee Legacy.”
The purpose of this initiative is to raise dollars to support the DFW Chapter’s scholarship endowment fund at JSU. We recently were highlighted for our $25,000 endowment. This fund provides scholarship support for students attending JSU from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. In addition, the DFW Chapter provides book awards and unmet need scholarships to students from other areas that need help bridging the financial gap. The DFW Chapter provides this added layer of support in hopes to encourage growing talent to consider relocating to the Dallas-Ft Worth area after graduation.
The Black Winemakers’ Dinner is the DFW Chapter’s signature event. We highlight African American-owned wineries from across the United States, like Vision Cellars, Dotson-Cervantes, and Maison Noir Winery. It is our hope to educate those in attendance on wine pairing and supporting the wineries featured. The evening consists of four wine tastings, a Brazilian churrasco style meal, silent auction, and of course Tiger Pride.
I am asking on behalf of the JSUNAA Dallas-Ft. Worth Chapter to invite you to join in our efforts to expand scholarship resources for DFW area students. The attached form highlights the opportunities available to support. We welcome your participation in the 2019 Black Winemakers’ Dinner and thank you for your consideration of our request. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com or (601)506-7034. We look forward to your support as we continue “Challenging Minds and Changing Lives” through scholarship dollars.
